King County

Research Recovery Intern

June 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I loved the internship program with King County. There was a big focus on learning not just going to work and working on projects. We went on a lot of field trips and I got to learn about other sections as well.

What I wish was different

I wish they had more work for me to do, near the end I was bored.

Advice

There are so many opportunities to network! I met a lot of people through this and it set me up nicely- I am doing my capstone with King County!

Project Management Intern

June - September 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I enjoyed being able to see how large capital projects operate from start to finish. I enjoyed the exposure to the different areas in King County's Wastewater Treatment Division and our treatment facilities/processes in King County. As a project management intern, I was able to coordinate with several teams to learn about different projects and help advance those projects forward towards completion.

Advice

Dive in and ask a ton of questions. Walk around to different groups and ask people about their positions and work. King County Wastewater Treatment Division consists of several groups and there is always a lot to learn. Even look around at other divisions to find what interests you the most - King County has endless opportunities so go out there and find what fits you the best!

Finance Intern

June - September 2017 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

Great experience in a large organization, attending meetings, off-site tours, and being apart of a large workgroup. This was a great exposure to typical work life in a corporate office. In addition, I had exposure to tasks that I had learned in my major classes and was able to see them in application.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been kept more busy and had some stricter planning regarding my job, but overall it was a great internship.

Advice

Go out of your way to introduce yourself and meet as many people, it is great networking and can lead to future opportunities.
