Junior Piano Instructor

Job Description

Looking for a late teen or young adult with piano experience to conduct beginner to early intermediate lessons for children. This teacher would work part time and teach 1-2 clients (or more, if willing) and may also provide substitute lessons based on availability. Ideally this person is a young, aspiring musician who enjoys working with children and is eager to learn how to mentor and bring positivity into a child’s life. This person is adaptable to the needs of a child, and believes that building a trusting relationship with the child and client is of utmost importance. This junior teacher will work with the senior teacher in honing his/her/their teaching style while adhering to the foundation of piano music theory and the students’ progression. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide weekly piano lessons for assigned clientele (30 or 45 minutes lessons depending on students’ level, age, and/or scheduling availability).
  • Coach students for the annual piano recital by guiding them through their performance pieces.
  • Adhere to teaching foundations and progressive learning methodologies provided by the senior instructor.
  • Coordinate with clientele on scheduling weekly lessons.
  • Act as substitute instructor for other clientele on an as-needed basis depending on availability.

Requirements

  • Driver’s License
  • Located in Silicon Valley 
  • Comfortable experience in piano and/or music theory 
  • Available to commit to assigned clients for 6 months or longer

Preferred Qualifications 

  • 3+ years of piano and/or music education (Music degree or formal music education is not required).
  • Works well with children and teens starting from age 4 (Exemplifies patience, creativity, fun, and caring discipline).
  • Punctuality and reliability to commit and show up for lessons, or efficient communication for cancellations or rescheduling. 
  • Professionalism and great communication with clients. 
  • Adaptable to changes in scheduling. 
  • Experience working with children is a plus. 
  • Experience teaching or tutoring is a plus.
