Fixed Income Trading Assistant

The Fixed Income Trading Assistant will join a veteran team that operates in a dynamic sales and trading environment. This person will work with the Fixed Income team that deals in treasuries, agencies, and money market instruments and will assist in analysis, evaluation, origination, trading, and settlement of a wide variety of fixed-income securities.

The ideal candidate is a professional who has prior exposure to Fixed Income trading and is seeking to gain additional expertise and grow their responsibilities. However, we will also consider hungry, driven recent graduates who have a passion for the markets and a strong desire to work hard and learn.  This person will work directly with senior salespeople and traders to support their coverage of institutional clients.  This role is best suited to someone interested in pursuing a career within Fixed Income sales or trading and who wants a front row seat alongside seasoned professionals for a hands-on apprenticeship in learning the business.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative and clerical support, including the set-up and maintenance of customer files
  • Produce and maintain many proprietary spreadsheets and database applications to help manage the organization and distribution of market and client data
  • Support daily production of select clients’ securities offerings
  • Support management’s monthly and quarterly reporting
  • Exhibit a willingness to learn the client workflow for direct execution across Credit and Rates markets, from generating trade ideas through settlement of trade
  • Build and maintain valuable and trusted relationships with team members and clients
  • Become proficient with industry-wide and proprietary electronic trading and research platforms to eventually assist trading staff with executing positions, both electronic and voice
  • Assist salespeople with prospecting, relationship management, and cross selling, in addition to responding to client inquiries
  • Engage in frequent ad-hoc project work to benefit the sales and/or trading function as a whole

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree with excellent academic credentials
  • A self-motivated individual that can work both independently and within a team structure
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, a strong aptitude for solving problems, tenacious, resourceful
  • Very strong Excel skills and strong Word, database and PowerPoint skills.
  • A basic understanding of fixed income markets and macroeconomic fundamentals
  • The ability to thrive in an open-outcry environment (noisy, lack of privacy, potentially stressful)
  • Strong time management, communication, and organization skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • A desire to outperform goals
  • Willingness to work market hours (ET) while based on the west coast (PT)
  • Candidates will be required to make rapid progress toward completion of the FINRA Series 7 and Series 63 licenses if they don’t already possess them

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Financial modeling experience
  • SalesForce experience
  • VBA proficiency
  • Series 7 and 63
  • 1-2 years’ experience in finance/economics
  • Analyst training classes

 

Salary Expectations:

Base salary is initially expected to be $55,000-70,000, based on experience.

Eligible for discretionary bonus. 

Location: Portland, OR

This position is not open to a relocation stipend. Applicants must be committed to staying in Portland.
