Date Available:                         June 16, 2025
Application Deadline:                To ensure consideration, please apply by May 30, 2025

General Duties/Description:

The Evans School is looking for two Reader/Graders to assist with PUBPOL 201: Introduction to Public Policy during summer quarter Term A in 2025, which runs June 23-July 23, 2025. These positions are expected to have 10-15 hours of work per week, with a maximum of 80 hours total for the four-week period. This section of PUBPOL 201 is entirely asynchronous, which means students enrolled in the course will move through content at their chosen pace.

Duties for the reader/grader will include grading daily discussion posts and reflections, 3-4 page written assignments, and other online student work on a range of topics related to public policy and governance. The reader-grader will also grade two midterms and a final exam, all of which consist of multiple choice and matching questions, plus short-essay responses. Work hours are flexible within the goal of returning assignments to PUBPOL 201 students within a week of the submission date so that undergraduate students receive timely feedback on their written work and exams.

Requirements:

  • Current UW graduate student who has completed MPA core coursework (or equivalent coursework in related fields).
  • Strong writing skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience grading written work.
  • Experience with Canvas learning management system.

Salary:

Pay range is dependent on experience, $22.00/per hour to $25.00 per hour. This is an hourly position which is not eligible for tuition waiver.

This position is overtime eligible. Student hourly employees are limited to working a maximum of 19.5 hours per workweek during a quarter in which the student is enrolled but may work more than 19.5 hours per workweek during school breaks or when “on leave.” If a student hourly employee has more than one University position, the hours worked in all positions are totaled to determine the total hours worked within the workweek and cannot exceed the 19.5-hour limit in total. The 19.5-hour limit may only exceed during academic breaks, enrollment break period, or prior to the first quarter of enrollment.

Benefits:

This appointment does not provide a tuition waiver. You are not eligible for the Graduate Appointee Insurance Plan (GAIP) medical insurance coverage based on this appointment. Student hourly employees accrue one hour of sick time off for every 40 hours worked. Accrual begins at the start of employment and is available for use the following month.
