University of Washington Esports 

University of Washington Esports fields competitive rosters that represent the University of Washington across various gaming titles. The program is run on the foundational pillars of community, career, and competition, all anchored in the Husky Union Building Esports Arena & Gaming Lounge: A 1,000 square-foot full-service gaming center supporting casual and competitive gaming. The space serves as the nerve center and nexus between student communities, interactive media partners, and gaming culture.

Job Description

The Marketing Coordinator for University of Washington Esports creates content and maintains a comprehensive marketing and communications plan to promote UW Esports’ competition, events, and opportunities to campus departments, Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), and the broader campus community. This includes leading campaigns, fostering engagement with followers, and sharing student experiences with an emphasis on inclusivity. The position provides support for community, competitive, and broadcasting projects through promotion on various platforms. In collaboration with the Esports Manager and other HUB staff, the Marketing Coordinator will work to grow the University of Washington Esports brand on campus and beyond.

Responsibilities 

  • Manage the UW Esports marketing team to develop the organization’s presence on multimedia platforms, including but not limited to Twitter, LinkedIn, Discord, newsletters, and web.
  • Plan and coordinate outreach opportunities, cultivating relationships with program/campus partners.
  • Promote UW Esports and related events through marketing campaigns with campus community, including but not limited to flyering and tabling.
  • Maintain a consistent direction for UW Esports’ brand and marketing efforts to reach target audiences.
  • Recruit for and lead the University of Washington Esports marketing team, consisting of student volunteers.
  • Support the UW Esports events team and the UW Esports production team with strategic promotion and effective collaboration.
  • Collaborate with the HUB professional and student staff, including HUB Games and the HUB Creative Team, to maintain consistency with department marketing guidelines.
  • Track and document efficacy of UW Esports marketing efforts, including impressions, engagement, and more.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings for both unit-specific and HUB student staff orientation/training.
  • Communicate with the Esports Manager on project updates, assignments, and progress reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven experience in following through on projects, managing time effectively, and meeting deadlines.
  • Familiarity with exploring and adopting social media trends.
  • Ability to work in a team setting as well as autonomously.
  • Experience with graphic design (preferably Adobe Creative Suite; personal license not required).
  • Ability to work within philosophy, mission and purpose of the HUB.
  • Currently enrolled as a student in good standing at the University of Washington with a minimum of 6 undergraduate or 4 graduate credits.
  • Currently authorized to work in the US.

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with PC and console gaming, gaming culture/community, and UW campus community.
  • Experience managing social media channels for organizations/businesses/brands.
  • Experience supporting marketing efforts for on-campus promotions.
  • Previous and current coursework in Marketing, Communications, Business or related courses.
  • Previous or current membership in student government, RSO, or related organizations.
  • Demonstrated commitment and interest in campus involvement and leadership.
  • Ability to understand, articulate and learn issues of social justice, equity and cultural competency.

Supervision

This position reports to the Esports Manager.

Job Hours

5-15 hours per week, Monday-Friday (fall, winter, and spring; limited hours available in summer). Occasional evening and weekend hours for programs, events, and training. Hours vary based on academic breaks and University Holidays. Schedules are determined by workload, class schedule, and academic responsibilities. Benefits include 5 hours of free PC gaming time at the HUB Esports Arena for each week of paid work. Ideal candidates can commit to at least one academic year. This is a work-study eligible position.

Project Persistence

As part of our commitment to the student experience, the HUB and the Division of Student Life will review each student employees’ academic progress via GPA reviews. The intent of these grade checks is to offer our student employees holistic support and connect students to resources and academic support services should the need arise. These reviews will begin after you complete your first quarter of employment. GPA reviews have no impact on your selection for the position or your standing as an employee once you begin employment.
