Student Building Manager

With over 650 student-athletes participating in UW's 22 sports programs, the department of Intercollegiate Athletics is committed to providing student-athletes with the ability to compete for national and conference championships while working toward a degree from one of the world's leading public research universities. 

The University of Washington Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking candidates for the position of Student Building Manager. Candidates are preferred to be current students at the University of Washington.

ICA Student Building Managers are responsible for the supervision of athletic facilities outside of normal business hours. This includes much coordination from the event management department as well as interactions with all varsity sport programs and ICA staff. In addition to supporting the many different athletic facilities, ICA Student Building Managers will also support athletic events occurring at the University of Washington. 

The employee will gain the knowledge to successfully lockdown all ICA Facilities, assist the Event Management department, as well as obtain a deep understanding of the daily operations of the event and facility management department.

Facility Supervision (90%) –

  • Complete special projects, as assigned.
  • Distribute radios and ticket scanners. Log check in/out of devices.
  • Lockdown athletic facilities every night. Check and lock all doors, gates, and windows throughout athletic facilities every night.
  • Maintain a daily lockdown report and submit to designated ICA staff members.
  • Manage ICA radios and ticket scanners.
  • Monitor area security cameras for suspicious activity.
  • Monitor ICA Security phone to provide customer service to ICA coaches, staff, and student-athletes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Patrol and monitor athletic facilities to maintain security from fire, theft, illegal entry, property damage or unauthorized use of the building.
  • Report all issues directly to supervisor.
  • Report any suspicious activity to event management team, or UWPD, if necessary.
  • Send daily lockdown to respective ICA staff.

Event Support (10%) –

  • Support Event Manager(s) in the execution of special events and athletic contests. Duties may include:
    • Provide access to facilities for home and away athletic teams and outside rental groups.
    • Turn on lights in various athletic facilities.
    • Deliver equipment.
    • Escort personnel through facilities.
    • Meet vendors for pick-up/drop off of goods and services.
    • Run general errands at the direction of the event manager.
  • Complete tasks during shifts for event management team.
  • Deliver equipment to athletic facilities when requested by event manager.

Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Conference, the State of Washington, and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University.  The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

  • Desire to pursue a career in event and facility management. 
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented with ability to multitask and prioritize various responsibilities.
  • Proven knowledge and skills with customer service and facility operations.

Requirements –

  • Must have availability during evenings, weekends, University breaks and holidays.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Possess a valid State of Washington driver license.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, and climb stairs throughout each shift.
  • Ability to occasionally lift 25lbs, unaided.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Shift –

Weekday shifts will range from 4-10pm. Weekend shifts will take place during 8am – 10pm. This position will work no more than 19.5 hours per week. Most weeks will be roughly 8-12 hours. Candidates must have availability during University breaks and Holidays.
