Waterfront Assistant

Department Description 

UW Recreation is a department within the Division of Student Life. We provide safe, accessible, and dynamic recreation experiences to engage students in growth and wellbeing. UW Recreation serves over one million students, faculty, and staff each academic year through informal and formal recreation, including fitness and sports classes, intramural and club sports, outdoor education, mindfulness programs, and more.

Job Description  
Under the supervision of the UWild Boating & Rentals Manager, UWild Waterfront (WAC) Assistants are responsible for providing customer support throughout the watercraft rental process. Examples of duties include: controlling access, preparing docks, monitoring Union Bay waters for boat safety, use of recreation management software and cash register. WAC Assistants play a significant role in maintaining a safe and pleasant environment for patrons.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • University of Washington matriculated student
  • Must be eligible and willing to work as a UW Student Employee through September 2025
  • Knowledge of kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and their uses.
  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, lift and/or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Eligible to work as a UW Student Employee through September 2027
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification
  • Valid Washington State Boater Education Card
  • Experience canoeing, kayaking, or paddleboarding

 

Job Hours and Pay Rate 
Up to 19.5 hours per week while enrolled in classes

Up to 40 hours per week while not enrolled in classes (usually summer)

$20.76 - $21.18 per hour

 

*Around 90% of available hours are in spring and summer quarters.

*This is a seasonal job with boat rentals only open from mid-April to early October.
