Peer Coach (2025-2026)
Note: This job is intended for the upcoming academic year of 2025-2026.
WHO WE ARE:
The Career & Internship Center is a place where students and recent graduates can explore careers, prepare job search materials, and connect with employers. We do that by offering one-on-one appointments, drop-ins, workshops, webinars, academic courses, mentorship programs, career fairs, panels, web-based resources, and so much more! The Career & Internship Center is a busy place run by staff and students who love helping students succeed, and we need some Peer Coaches to join our team.
WHAT IS A PEER COACH?
Peer Coaches are an extension of our career coaching team. Their primary role is to assist students and recent graduates with a wide range of career development topics, including career exploration, resume/cover letter writing, job & internship search strategies, interview prep, and applying to graduate/professional schools. Other duties include facilitating online resume reviews, delivering in-person and virtual presentations, and helping with career fairs and other events.
WHAT EXACTLY DO PEER COACHES DO?
- Student Appointments/Drop-Ins: Appointments are 30-minutes long and are offered in-person and virtually. Drop-in sessions are in-person sessions that last about 15-20 minutes; they only occur during specific drop-in windows (typically Monday-Friday from 11:30 to 1:30).
- Online Resume Review: Facilitate online resume reviews for undergraduates. Read submitted resumes, answer questions, and provide comments on formatting, organization, and content. These can be done when drop-in shifts are slow.
- Outreach: In addition to normally scheduled drop-in shifts and appointments, peer coaches present to FIGS, student clubs, and similar groups on topics like center services and resumes. Some requested presentations happen during business hours and some happen in the evenings. Group size typically ranges from 10-50. Additionally, peer coaches will help staff our center’s table at campus events, which means providing students with information about our center and answering students’ questions.
- Event & Office Support: Peer coaches, like our peer associates (who help run our front desk), will help with large events such as career fairs. Additionally, peer coaches will complete assigned tasks such as data entry; work on special projects as available; and perform other duties as assigned.
