Account Executives / Sales Representatives

Overview

As an Account Executive for Student Publications (The Daily student newspaper, Husky Media Publications, SmirkUW and HUA Voice), you will be a part of a team of 10 people who connects with students, campus organizations, non-profits, local businesses, and national businesses to help them promote their business or product. You will act as a partner who will consult businesses or entities throughout the process and ensuring that they are getting the most effective outcome for their budget and needs. You need to be a student at the University of Washington as an undergraduate or graduate student and able to work from now through Spring 2026 (you are able to work beyond Spring if you choose).

General Duties

Account Executives are responsible for generating revenue for our print, online, social media, newsletter, and podcast advertising platforms. Account Executives must provide exemplary customer service to deliver the best results through accurate processes from scheduling, ad placement, ad production, to billing. Account Executives are always professional and organized in the office and when meeting with clients.

Specific Duties

Account Executives are required to work a minimum of 20 hours a week during the summer and 10 hours a week during the school year. Amount of hours worked can be adjusted. Other responsibilities include:

  • Answering phone calls and emails to assist current and new clients
  • Making monthly territory walks to meet with current and prospective clients in the U District
  • Selling and maintaining advertising contracts
  • Prospecting for new clients
  • Creating advertising campaigns
  • Scheduling advertising for print, online, and/or social media
  • Filing and maintaining advertising orders, contracts, policies, and artwork
  • Resolving customer service problems with the Ad Manager or Assistant Ad Manager
  • Maintaining accurate records and notes in our AdPro software
  • Working within a team environment and helping others as needed

Compensation

Base hourly salary starts at $19.97. Hourly salary may be increased based on sales goals for each quarter. Maximum amount of hours worked in a week can be adjusted as well.
