Bay Laurel Catering Student Server
PURPOSE
Provide entry-level catered event support, including gathering supplies and equipment, setup, cleanup, and serving.
TYPICAL DUTIES
• Review banquet orders (BEO) for on-time delivery and sets, gather food and equipment items requested on the BEO, transfer items to carts, load carts into vehicles.
• Load and unload catering vehicles.
• Set up tables for catered events with china, flatware and service items.
• Arrange buffets and guest tables to quality assurance standards.
• Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages to specifications provided.
• Set up buffets, serve meals table-side, serve beverages and assist guests as needed.
• Serve as a knowledgeable resource at events for guests’ dietary, ingredient inquiries, including known allergens.
• Serve plated foods accordance with Bay Laurel Catering’s established procedures.
• Break down events, return non-disposable items to catering kitchen, and return equipment and wares to be cleaned and stored.
• Clean kitchen area and maintain cleanliness of work and/or service areas.
• Maintain food at proper serving and storing temperatures, and maintain proper storage of all non-food supplies.
• Operate laundry machines; sort and fold laundry for food service operation.
• Maintain service and storage areas to par levels to meet daily event needs.
• Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and equipment; operate dishwashing machines.
• Maintain established security guidelines for key control, safe combinations and building access.
• Keep all areas of operation free of litter and debris; ensure that all work areas are clean and orderly.
• Perform posted closing duties to include stocking for the next day, cleaning prep areas and locking all doors, key boxes, and vehicles. Assist culinary staff by opening packaging and apportioning contents.
• Operate and/or clean kitchen equipment. Report malfunctions to unit leadership.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a matriculated University of Washington student taking at least 6 undergraduate credits or 4 graduate credits.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Serving, catering, and customer service experience.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Acquire a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment and maintain thereafter.
• If driving, completion of UW Fleet Service’s Driver Safety & Awareness Training within the last two years.
