GAO Analyst Fall Internship (GS 07/09)

Ready to help make government programs more efficient, effective, ethical, equitable, and responsive? The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), often called the independent “Congressional Watchdog,” is seeking applicants for our fall internship program. GAO’s fall internships will be virtual.

To be considered for this position, you MUST apply via USAJOBS. Any applications submitted through Handshake will not be reviewed. The vacancy will close on June 10 or when 500 applications are submitted - whichever occurs first.

As a GAO intern, you will learn how to conduct federal audits and program evaluations and apply that knowledge as part of a team. You will assist GAO analysts in planning and conducting in-depth reviews of federal programs. You will collect and analyze data, develop findings and evidence-based recommendations, and present the information both orally and in writing to diverse audiences.

You will also be part of an organization that makes it a priority to recruit and retain a diverse, highly professional, motivated, and multi-disciplinary workforce. We strive to enhance and sustain a GAO-wide culture that is fair, diverse, and inclusive and provides opportunities for all staff to excel. Our diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts are supported by a number of organizational units, including a dozen advisory groups and employee organizations who advocate on behalf of employees and sponsor and implement DEI activities throughout the agency.

To be eligible for an internship, students must be enrolled on at least a half-time basis as determined by their college or university. GAO student interns are appointed on a nonpermanent basis and may be eligible to be converted to a permanent position at the location of their internship after completing 400 total hours and after meeting degree requirements. Internships are open to both graduate and undergraduate students.

Salary differs depending on locality and education.
