Materials Scientist

RTX

Job Description:

As a Scientist or Engineer involved in bulk growth of crystalline semiconductors you will focus on development and production of critical materials for Infrared Sensors at Raytheon Vision Systems, a provider of leading edge sensing technology. We are looking for an individual who must demonstrate a safety first work routine. A scientist/engineer who supports production goals and participates in the development of state-of-the-art, cost competitive, crystalline, and bulk CdZnTe materials for next generation advanced IR sensors. As part of a multi-functional team you will be involved quantifying critical growth parameters, and in the development of meaningful, trackable process metrics. This work may extend into growth modeling for variability analysis, subsequent scale-up with an end-goal of a demonstration of industry-leading large semiconductor substrates enabling subsequent epitaxial diode growth and high-definition IR sensors for space applications.

In depth knowledge of bulk crystalline growth mechanisms is essential. This includes utilization of materials characterization techniques or metrology that provide data to derive growth processes. You will assess process variability through advanced mathematical methods and statistical analysis, apply process controls to assure repeatability for transition into production.

Crystal growth and crystalline substrate fabrication requires to be able to work in a controlled, clean-room environment as well as a fundamental understanding of high temperature furnaces and vacuum equipment. You will work in a team environment that will require detailed communication to direct technicians and to interface with colleagues collaboratively. You will be participating in production meetings in addition to engineering projects. Understanding of production goals with associated urgency of schedule is equally important to research and development. In that role you will further engage collaboratively with internal and external customers involved in diode growths via Molecular Beam Epitaxy or Liquid Phase Epitaxy. It is encouraged to interface with industry networks and to maintain relationship with Universities to maintain a current, up-to-date understanding of state of the art.
