Industrial Hygiene/ Public Health Intern - Cepheid - Bothell, Washington


POSITION SUMMARY:

Cepheid is working to build a strong Safety Culture across all sites. This position will serve as a Subject Matter Expert in Environmental Health & Safety for Cepheid at the site level. The role will be responsible for managing the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation throughout Cepheid.



ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Execute site EHS compliance and management systems in accordance with governmental and company requirements
Execute the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation
Manage projects in EHS
Partner with Cepheid site leaders to continuously improve the safety culture, awareness, and accountability in support of EHS programs
Interface with site EHS committees, as well as the Emergency Response and Crisis Management teams
Evaluate proposed Federal, state, and local EHS compliance laws and regulations to determine impact to compliance programs and business operations
Interpret laws and regulations to determine applicability for facilities of responsibility and implement programs to comply
Execute EHS management systems programs and associated documentation
Support environmental compliance metrics including Storm, hazardous material management, Air permits, Life Safety, Hazardous Wastes, Form R reporting, Spill Prevention Countermeasures and Control Programs and chemical tracking and inventory programs
Execute audits, IH sampling, ergonomic assessments, and assists in pollution prevention activities.

 

Education and Experience (in years): 

Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Environmental, Health
Knowledge and skills: 

Excellent communication and collaboration skills with all levels of organization
Ability to solve complex problems by: actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources, consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems, and mastering unfamiliar information, tasks, and situations quickly and effectively
Must be highly proficient in Excel and data analysis
Strong computer-based skills, specifically with Microsoft Word and Power Point programs.
Physical requirements/abilities:

Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Must be able to stand for several hours. Work may involve repetitive arm/wrist motions.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:


Pursuing a Master of Science degree in the field of Environmental, Health and Safety  
Strong project management skills as the position requires project manage across global operations
Strong data management and analysis skills as the position will be responsible for data management for Environmental Health and Safety
Strong people skills as the position will be required to influence people
