Intern-PR Communications Specialist

The Summer Internship Program is a vital piece of BECU’s hiring philosophy and strategy. Interns are assigned a mentor in the department in which they will be working. The intern will work closely with their mentor throughout the duration of the internship. The opportunity is more than “sit back and observe”, our interns are integrated into daily duties of their respective departments, attend various meetings, and assist on departmental projects as assigned. BECU interns bring a welcome perspective to our organization. RESPONSIBILITIES:

In this internship you will:

A Public Relations (PR) intern would support the preparation, development and execution of key external communication and thought leadership efforts. As BECU continues to grow there is a greater need for increased attention to public relations and external communications. The intern would assist in growing each of these areas and support event activities across the communications team.
Execute communication by consulting, developing, writing, editing, reviewing and proofing messages and PR materials, including bios, fact sheets and press releases.
Support the development of, create and/or publish content for external channels, including BECU newsroom and social media channels.
Assist in researching media trends, develop media lists and support the ideation and/or pitching of trade and local reporters.
Measure and report on the success of PR campaigns and announcements using news media database platform.
Engage with Social Impact and Marketing peers, PR agency partner, and BECU leaders through meetings and project work.
The PR intern will focus on PR and external communications related to projects, such as: Annual Day of Service, BECU Foundation scholarships, and standard BECU programs and events.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Communications, Public Relations, and Journalism degrees preferred, others may be considered
Cumulative GPA of 2.7+ required
Proven leadership skills either on or off campus preferred
Community involvement/volunteerism preferred
Participation in extracurricular activities preferred
Able to commit to a 12-week program throughout summer
Comprehensive Excel skill preferred
Strong written communication skills
