About the Student Activities Office (SAO) Located in the HUB
The Student Activities Office (SAO) in the Husky Union Building encourages UW students to participate in student activities and student government as an excellent way to experience personal growth, meet new friends, and share common interests with other students, faculty, and staff. SAO’s goal is to help students develop skills in leadership, event planning and management, decision-making, communication, goal setting, fiscal management, marketing and promotion, and, most importantly, to make life at UW fun and memorable.
**Mandatory in-person training will be held September 21st–25th, 2026 upon hire, with additional mandatory in-person training on September 27th, 2026, from 9 a.m.–4 p.m.**

Job Description
The Student Activities Office is seeking a Student Assistant to provide front desk support and assist with office operations. This includes greeting visitors, answering general questions, providing information to students, maintaining office tidiness, supporting communication channels, sorting mail, assisting with administrative tasks, and helping with marketing efforts and event promotion.
Responsibilities
Cover the front desk of a busy HUB office: greet visitors, answer general questions, distribute informational materials, connect visitors with advisers, and maintain tidiness.
Use a multi-line phone system to answer and transfer calls, research inquiries as needed and refer callers to appropriate campus offices.
Sort incoming mail daily for over 200 mailboxes serving Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), ASUW Commissions and Entities, HUB offices, and SAO advisers.
Assist the Administrative Assistant Supervisor in maintaining files of over 1200 RSOs, updating directories, and preparing handouts.
Occasionally run errands on campus for SAO advisers, including document or check delivery.
Enter SAO events into the office calendar on a weekly or as-needed basis.
Post events on social media platforms.
Conduct presentations for first-year and transfer students during summer orientation.
Assist with other duties assigned by the Administrative Assistant Supervisor or SAO advisers.
Attend mandatory SAO and HUB employee orientations covering customer service and office operations.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at the University of Washington with a minimum of 6 credits.
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new computer systems (e.g., Huskylink RSO database).
Effective and courteous communication skills, both in person, email, and by phone.
Strong presentation and networking abilities.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
Ability to maintain a friendly demeanor during busy or stressful times.
Experience with Microsoft 365.
Comfortable with public speaking.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or other design software.
Experience managing social media accounts (Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, Tik Tok).

This position reports to the Administrative Assistant Supervisor.
Job Hours and Pay Rate
5– 10 hours per week, up to 19.5 hours per week during each Quarter
Pay rate: $21.30 per hour.
Hours correspond with Student Activities Office hours: Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., closed weekends. Hours may vary during summer quarter.
Scheduling is based on workload, class schedules, and academic responsibilities.
Ideal candidates can commit for at least one academic year.
Additional hours may be available during academic breaks based on workload and student availability.

As part of our commitment to the student experience, the HUB and the Division of Student Life will review each student’s academic progress via GPA reviews beginning after the first quarter of employment. These reviews are intended to connect students with support resources if needed and will not impact your employment status.
