Job Description
The Disability Resources for Students (DRS) Office seeks an hourly student employee (undergraduate or graduate) to provide direct accommodation services. This includes but is not limited to reading aloud and describing printed materials including graphs and diagrams, formatting PPT Slides for presentations, accessing materials from library databases, and gathering library and research materials. DRS is seeking candidates that are resourceful, reliable, engaged, and professional. Scribes will be subject to a background check when hired.
Project Persistence
As part of our commitment to the student experience, Disability Resources for Students and the Division of Student Life will review each student employee’s academic progress via GPA reviews. The intent of these grade checks is to offer our student employees holistic support and connect students to resources and academic support services should the need arise. These reviews will begin after you complete your first quarter of employment. GPA reviews have no impact on your selection for the position or your standing as an employee once you begin employment.

Job Hours and Pay for Hourly Student Employee
The Scribe will work the following class period: September 30, 2026 - December 18, 2026. You cannot be the Scribe if you are enrolled in the class or another section of the class.
The Scribe will work the following class:
● PHYS 121
Course Description: Basic principles of mechanics and experiments in mechanics for physical science and engineering majors. Lecture tutorial and lab components must all be taken to receive credit. Maximum 5 credits allowed between PHYS 114; PHYS 117; PHYS 121; and PHYS 141 (or equivalents). Course equivalent to: B PHYS 121. Course overlaps with: PHYS 114; PHYS 117; PHYS 141; B PHYS 114; and B PHYS 117.
○ M/W/F at 8:30 AM - 9:20 AM - Location: PAA A102 (lecture)
○ TH at 1:30 PM - 2:20 PM - Location: PAB B109 (quiz)
○ TH at 5:00 PM - 6:20 PM - Location: KNE 120 (lecture)
○ T at 1:30 PM - 3:20 PM - Location: PAB B108 (lab)
- Schedule will vary depending on when student has exams (+ 1 hour) if applicable
- Student has access to Scribe outside of class (up to 7.5 additional hours a week)
Pay will be at a rate of $ 21.30 per hour.
Responsibilities
• Arrive early before pre-scheduled time.
• Assist student with reading and accessing research materials
• Write only what the student tells you to write.
• Read only materials the student tells you to read.
• Respect the student’s pace of work and needs.
• Read sections back as necessary.
• Refrain from offering help, tutoring or clarification of research materials
• Scribe during Exams when needed
• Ask student with disability for clarification if unsure what should be written.
• Ask student to spell unusual words or names.
• Seek clarification from the Supervisor if unsure what to do at any point.
Minimum Qualifications
• Prerequisite: either MATH 124 or MATH 134 (listed on transcript).
• Communication skills; oral and written.
• Competency in working with a diverse population.
• Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
• Meticulous attention to detail; proven dedication to accuracy in each task performed.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment.
Desirable
• PHYS 121 listed on transcript.
• Experience working with students and or adults with disabilities.
• Experience in and familiarity with higher education.
• Fluency in American Sign Language.
• Pattern of excellent attendance and punctuality in prior positions.
