About University of Washington Esports

University of Washington Esports fields competitive rosters that represent the University of Washington across various gaming titles. Through our broadcasting, event, and marketing operations, the Husky Experience is both fostered and celebrated in gaming and interactive media. The program is run on the foundational pillars of community, career, and competition, all anchored in the Husky Union Building Esports Arena & Gaming Lounge: A 1,000 square-foot full-service gaming center supporting casual and competitive gaming. The space serves as the nerve center and nexus between student communities, interactive media partners, and gaming culture. 

 

Job Description
The Marketing Coordinator for University of Washington Esports is a storyteller, leveraging online platforms and physical spaces to drive awareness of the organization and its students through visual and verbal media. From social media posts to tabling on campus, the ideal candidate can execute simultaneous campaigns through a comprehensive marketing and communications plan while leading a team of volunteer students. The position will have a passion for sharing a wide range of student experiences and opportunities through creative means. Balancing UW social media guidelines with the latest trends will create meaningful connections between our organization and students, alumni, and other stakeholders. In collaboration with the Esports Manager and other HUB staff, the Marketing Coordinator will work to grow the University of Washington Esports brand on campus and beyond. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead marketing campaigns by leveraging online and physical marketing strategies to promote events, tournaments, and opportunities.
  • Manage the UW Esports marketing team to develop the organization’s presence on multimedia platforms such as but not limited to Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, Discord, and YouTube.
  • Oversee the production of graphics for posters, social media posts, and other marketing needs.
  • Maintain a consistent direction for UW Esports’ brand and marketing efforts to reach target audiences.
  • Support the UW Esports events team and the UW Esports production team with strategic promotion and effective collaboration.
  • Plan and coordinate outreach opportunities, cultivating relationships with program and campus partners.
  • Track and document the efficacy of UW Esports marketing efforts, including impressions, engagement, and more.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings for both unit-specific and HUB student staff orientation/training.
  • Communicate with the Esports Manager on project updates, assignments, and progress reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven experience in following through on projects, working collaboratively to meet deadlines, and managing time effectively.
  • Familiarity with exploring and adopting social media trends.
  • Ability to work in a team setting as well as autonomously.
  • Experience with graphic design (preferably Adobe Creative Suite; personal license not required).
  • Ability to work within philosophy, mission, and purpose of the HUB.
  • Currently enrolled as a student in good standing at the University of Washington with a minimum of 6 undergraduate or 4 graduate credits.
  • Currently authorized to work in the US.

 

Desirable Skills 

  • Familiarity with PC and console gaming, gaming culture/community, and UW campus community.
  • Experience managing social media channels for organizations/businesses/brands.
  • Experience supporting marketing efforts for on-campus promotions.
  • Previous and current coursework in Marketing, Communications, Business or related courses.
  • Experience leveraging data to make informed decisions.
  • Previous or current membership in student government, RSO, or related organizations.
  • Familiarity with VALORANT, League of Legends, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and/or Rocket League.
  • Demonstrated commitment and interest in campus involvement and leadership.
  • Ability to understand, articulate and learn issues of social justice, equity and cultural competency.

Supervision
This position will report to Glen Tokola, University of Washington Esports Manager. 

 

Job Hours and Pay Rate 

$21.30/hr, 5-15 hours per week, Monday-Friday (fall, winter, and spring; limited hours available in summer). Occasional evening and weekend hours for programs, events, and training. Hours vary based on academic breaks and University Holidays. Schedules are determined by workload, class schedule, and academic responsibilities. Benefits include 5 hours of free PC gaming time at the HUB Esports Arena for each week of paid work. Ideal candidates can commit to at least one academic year.
