About University of Washington Esports
University of Washington Esports fields competitive rosters that represent the University of Washington across various gaming titles. Through our broadcasting, event, and marketing operations, the Husky Experience is both fostered and celebrated in gaming and interactive media. The program is run on the foundational pillars of community, career, and competition, all anchored in the Husky Union Building Esports Arena & Gaming Lounge: A 1,000 square-foot full-service gaming center supporting casual and competitive gaming. The space serves as the nerve center and nexus between student communities, interactive media partners, and gaming culture.
Job Description
The Community Coordinator for University of Washington Esports is a connector, fostering relationships between students, alumni, industry leaders, and the esports program through digital community platforms, events, workshops, and more. The ideal candidate will explore new ways for UW Esports to support students through an active presence in the campus community, identifying areas of interest, and leveraging the program’s resources to foster opportunities such as workshops, community events, panels, and more. Competition, broadcasting, and marketing projects are supported by this position through fostering a diverse audience and being a resource for student engagement strategies. In collaboration with the Esports Manager and other HUB staff, the Community Coordinator will work to engage and grow a healthy and inclusive University of Washington Esports community.
Responsibilities
- Lead event-planning efforts for University of Washington Esports to foster a healthy and inclusive community.
- Contribute to content strategy on digital platforms and public-facing communications with community-centric perspective.
- Strategize and execute compelling engagement opportunities with UW Esports through Discord, events, workshops, brand activations, and more.
- Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of broadcast, event, marketing, and tournament administrative teams.
- Track data and document efficacy of UW Esports community efforts, including attendance, program affiliate engagement and recruitment, and more.
- Collaborate with colleagues to proactively support content, social media, and production efforts as an informed voice for the student community.
- Manage a team consisting of volunteers and additional student staff in the preparation and execution of UW Esports events.
- Attend and participate in team meetings, unit-specific and HUB student staff orientation/training.
- Communicate with the Esports Manager for project updates, assignments and progress reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Initiative and the ability to follow through on projects, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a team setting as well as autonomously.
- Ability to work within philosophy, mission and purpose of the HUB.
- Currently enrolled as a student in good standing at the University of Washington with a minimum of 6 undergraduate or 4 graduate credits.
- Currently authorized to work in the US.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of PC and console gaming, gaming culture/community, and UW campus community.
- Experience recruiting and managing volunteers.
- Experience engaging with campus and gaming communities through digital platforms and in-person events.
- Knowledge of messaging, server administration, bot integrations, and channel management on Discord.
- Experience with graphic design (preferably Adobe Creative Suite; personal license not required).
- Previous and current coursework in Marketing, Communications, Business or related courses.
- Experience leveraging data to make informed decisions.
- Previous or current membership in student government, RSOs, or related student-led organizations.
- Familiarity with VALORANT, League of Legends, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and/or Rocket League.
- Demonstrated commitment and interest in campus involvement and leadership.
- Ability to understand, articulate, and learn issues of social justice, equity and cultural competency.

Supervision
This position will report to Glen Tokola, University of Washington Esports Manager.
Job Hours and Pay Rate
$21.30/hr, 5-15 hours per week, Monday-Friday (fall, winter, and spring; limited hours available in summer). Occasional evening and weekend hours for programs, events, and training. Hours vary based on academic breaks and University Holidays. Schedules are determined by workload, class schedule, and academic responsibilities. Benefits include 5 hours of free PC gaming time at the HUB Esports Arena for each week of paid work. Ideal candidates can commit to at least one academic year.
