About University of Washington Esports
University of Washington Esports fields competitive rosters that represent the University of Washington across various gaming titles. Through our broadcasting, event, and marketing operations, the Husky Experience is both fostered and celebrated in gaming and interactive media. The program is run on the foundational pillars of community, career, and competition, all anchored in the Husky Union Building Esports Arena & Gaming Lounge: A 1,000 square-foot full-service gaming center supporting casual and competitive gaming. The space serves as the nerve center and nexus between student communities, interactive media partners, and gaming culture.
Job Description
The Operations Coordinator for University of Washington Esports is a collaborator, ensuring seamless execution across event, marketing, and production efforts by monitoring workflows and supporting colleagues where needed. This position is also the project lead for University of Washington Esports’ competitive events, such as the UW Esports Intramural League. The ideal candidate has the project management fundamentals and passion for teamwork to bring a diverse range of projects to completion, thriving in a dynamic environment. The position provides support for colleagues by filling in vacant production roles, additional marketing support for events, or event facilitation roles. In collaboration with the Esports Manager and other HUB staff, the Operations Coordinator will support UW Esports’ capacity to support potential and current student interest in the organization’s products, programs, and services.
Responsibilities
- Lead the University of Washington Esports Intramural League tournament series and administration team to facilitate competitive opportunities grounded in integrity and fair play.
- Track volunteer recruitment across broadcasting and outreach operations to ensure adequate support for both volunteers and program efforts.
- Assist with the organization’s broadcast efforts as a stand-by producer capable of operating OBS and guiding a production crew.
- Manage recognition efforts of our students to highlight their contributions and Husky Experience as members of the program to the public.
- Ensure the UW Esports Operations Discord server reflects the needs of competitive teams, broadcast crews, event teams, and program staff through proactive communication.
- Maintain project management platforms in consultation with the Esports Manager to refine operational workflows and documentation.
- Support cross-functional communication between competitive team managers and program staff to enable player participation in program efforts.
- Attend and participate in team meetings, unit-specific and HUB student staff orientation/training.
- Communicate with the Esports Manager for project updates, assignments and progress reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of PC and console gaming, gaming culture/community, and UW campus community.
- Familiarity with broadcasting software and platforms.
- Volunteer management or equivalent leadership experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Initiative and the ability to follow through on projects, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a team setting as well as autonomously.
- Ability to work within philosophy, mission and purpose of the HUB.
- Currently enrolled as a student in good standing at the University of Washington with a minimum of 6 undergraduate or 4 graduate credits.
- Currently authorized to work in the US.
Desirable Skills
- Experience facilitating events as part of a planning team.
- Experience with live broadcasts on platforms such as Twitch.
- Knowledge of Open Broadcasting Software (OBS).
- Knowledge of Discord messaging, server administration, and channel management.
- Experience with graphic design (preferably Adobe Creative Suite).
- Capable of leading a team or teaching inexperienced personnel.
- Experience with competitive play through online or in-person tournaments.
- Previous and current coursework in Marketing, Communications, Business or related courses.
- Previous or current membership in student government, RSO, or related organizations.
- Experience leveraging data to make informed decisions.
- Familiarity with VALORANT, League of Legends, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and/or Rocket League.
- Demonstrated commitment and interest in campus involvement and leadership.
- Ability to understand, articulate and learn issues of social justice, equity and cultural competency.

Supervision
This position will report to Glen Tokola, University of Washington Esports Manager.
Job Hours and Pay Rate
$21.30/hr, 5-15 hours per week, Monday-Friday (fall, winter, and spring; limited hours available in summer). Occasional evening and weekend hours for programs, events, and training. Hours vary based on academic breaks and University Holidays. Schedules are determined by workload, class schedule, and academic responsibilities. Benefits include 5 hours of free PC gaming time at the HUB Esports Arena for each week of paid work. Ideal candidates can commit to at least one academic year.
