Position Summary:

The Social Media & Marketing Student Assistant supports the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life by creating, managing, and evaluating digital content across OFSL communication platforms. This position plays a key role in promoting programs, services, and initiatives within the fraternity and sorority community. The role includes content creation, social media management, basic graphic design, event promotion, and assistance with marketing campaigns.

The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, and able to communicate effectively with diverse student populations. As OFSL undergoes a rebranding process and works to share our story with the broader UW community, this position will play a key role in shaping our digital identity. We are seeking someone who can contribute fresh ideas and help develop a cohesive and engaging image for the office.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Social Media Management – 40%

  • Develop, schedule, and publish content for OFSL social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
  • Live-cover events as needed (stories, reels, photography, short-form videos)
  • Ensure content aligns with UW and OFSL brand guidelines

Content Creation & Marketing – 35%

  • Design graphics, posters, and digital flyers for OFSL programs and initiatives
  • Assist in creating marketing campaigns for recruitment, leadership programs, and community-wide events
  • Capture photos and videos of fraternity/sorority events for promotional use
  • Connect with council PR chairs and develop content promotional materials

 

Engagement & Analytics – 15%

  • Monitor social media engagement and respond to comments/messages
  • Track analytics and prepare monthly engagement reports
  • Recommend strategies to expand reach and improve student engagement

Administrative Support – 10%

  • Attend OFSL team meetings as assigned 
  • Assist with website updates
  • Support office projects related to communications, outreach, and community visibility

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a current UW Seattle undergraduate 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook)
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Interest in marketing, communications, student affairs, or related fields

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the UW fraternity and sorority community
  • Experience with Canva or similar design tools
  • Photography and/or video editing skills
  • Experience managing brand or organizational social media accounts

Working Conditions & Schedule:

  • 5-10 hours per week (flexible based on student schedule)
  • Some evening or weekend hours may be required for event coverage
  • Hybrid work options may be available depending on project needs

Compensation:

  • Hourly wage aligned with UW student employee pay guidelines
