Description
We believe that student experiences must be at the core of shaping strategies and initiatives to improve the educational journey and outcomes of transfer students. To foster inclusivity and ensure a student-centered approach, we are adding paid Student Team Members to our STEM Transfer Partnership 2.0 team.
The School of STEM is seeking a student team member to provide administrative support and to provide feedback and the student perspective for the Community College Research Initiatives' (CCRI) STEM Transfer Partnerships Project. CCRI conducts research on equitable college access, progression and transfer, degree completion, and employment in living-wage careers for underserved students and diverse learner populations. This project seeks to identify and remove barriers for transfer students to apply to and matriculate at the University of Washington Bothell.
Duration: date of hire through June 2026, 15-20 hours per quarter. Please note that hours vary greatly throughout the quarter. This position is great for students with a very flexible schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Participation in a Student Team Member Community of Practice (COP). Join a collaborative network of Student Team Members across all teams via zoom meetings. Connect with and learn from the experiences of students from varying backgrounds to bring authentic insights to the larger community. Share insights, support peers, and contribute to a shared understanding of challenges and solutions. Work closely with SBCTC Student Leaders to identify challenges and co-create actionable insights for your team. The SBCTC Student Leaders will provide training in such topics as:
- Organizational change and becoming a change agent.
- Navigating power dynamics.
- Collaboration and communication for change.
- Attend monthly team meetings through June. Actively contribute to team discussions and decision-making processes. Provide input on strategies and initiatives to address STEM transfer challenges and improve outcomes for students from low-income backgrounds. (Estimated four 1 hour meetings).
- Participate in mentorship workshops. Attend three 90-minute mentorship workshops as a member in the student community of practice. Dates are TBD but anticipated to be scheduled throughout the year. (Estimated time commitment, 4.5 hours per quarter)
- Attend annual convening, likely April 2026. If possible, participate in-person to participate in student cohort focused workshops on leadership. (Estimated time involved 8 hours plus travel time. Travel expenses are covered).
Salary: This is an hourly position with a pay rate of $25/hour.
Qualifications
- Must be a currently enrolled UW Bothell undergraduate student.
- Continuously enrolled in 6 or more undergraduate credit hours
- Strong written and communication skills
- Works well under pressure and demonstrates history of successfully meeting deadlines
Preferred Qualification:
- Personal experience as a student at Cascadia or other local community college
All new student employees must also complete UW's online Title IX course about preventing and responding to sex-and gender-based violence and harassment.
